As a result, Eskom appears to have excluded key instances of engagement with specific climate-related policies.
For example, it advocated for the continued role of fossil fuels, including fossil gas and clean coal technologies, in the South African energy mix directly to policymakers in a June 2025 parliamentary public hearing to the Standing Committee on Appropriations.
Similarly, in a January 2025 public hearing with the Electricity and Energy Committee of South Africa, Eskom advocated for a technology neutral approach to the energy transition, including the continued role of coal and fossil gas.
